Our Eco lodge has been designed to embrace the natural surroundings and we have worked within the framework of Sustainable Practices, Bio Tourism and Cultural and Educational Tours from the very beginning.
We are proud to announce that we have been certified with four out of five levels for sustainable tourism:
Guayabo Lodge has been an Eco Lodge from the very onset.
We would like our guests to become aware of our sustainability and best practices efforts. Here are just a few:
We support and enhance sustainable local development through our activities as a hotel and the tours we develop with an educational and cultural emphasis.
We support and enhance management and use of the natural environment, especially the highland rainforest, through specific activities, the management of our natural areas and our commitment to Eco Tourism.
We support the use of best practices at our hotel and try to foment the adoption of these practices by our personnel in their own houses.
We inform our guests of our principles and encourage them to adopt best practices while staying with us (and hopefully in their own homes!).
We contribute to the local development and economy through the employment and training of local personnel and the use of local goods and services for our hotel.
We work together with schools and the local community and help our guests to create a ‘hands on holiday’, with community projects or local schools.
We generate hot water mainly through solar panels.
We collect rainwater for use in our nurseries and gardening activities.
Great part of the electrical systems are underground, to minimize interference with natural surroundings.
We use solar lights for illumination in the gardens.
We grow our own organic produce, thanks to the recycling of organic waste and the use of lombriculture to produce organic compost.
We recycle all possible building materials, which are then used in the Small Animal Farm or the Ecological Operations Station.
